Here we are heading into a new year ... 2026. One of those times most all of us look at where we've been, where we are, and where we'd like to be in the coming days in all aspects of our lives. Our creative lives as songwriters, performers, arrangers, producers, and media coordinators demand so much of our time and focus it's easy to feel we've dropped the ball. I have my list of things to accomplish ... first to check off the list ... this New Years day email. I'd like to share a thought from esteemed music producer Rick Rubin that echoes my feelings on how we should view ourselves as songwriters. Here's a link to his substack below and I highly recommend his book, The Creative Act.

"Creative is something you are, not only something you do. It’s a way of moving through the world, every minute, every day. The artist is always on call" Rick Rubin
