Happy New Year

Here we are heading into a new year ... 2026. One of those times most all of us look at where we've been, where we are, and where we'd like to be in the coming days in all aspects of our lives.  Our creative lives as songwriters, performers, arrangers, producers, and media coordinators demand so much of our time and focus it's easy to feel we've dropped the ball.  I have my list of things to accomplish ... first to check off the list ... this New Years day email.  I'd like to share a thought from esteemed music producer Rick Rubin that echoes my feelings on how we should view ourselves as songwriters.  Here's a link to his substack below and I highly recommend his book, The Creative Act

Rick Rubin The Chores of Ordinary Life

"Creative is something you are, not only something you do. It’s a way of moving through the world, every minute, every day. The artist is always on call" Rick Rubin

The 1/13 session is full for song presentation but all are welcome to audit!

Thursday, January 29th 6-8:30PM        More info and register HERE

If you've just joined or renewed your annual membership remember you receive a complimentary Song Club online session!   We welcome members who'd like to audit a club without presenting a song!  (Register and send an email with AUDIT in the heading requesting to: info@newyorksongwriterscollective.com )

The goal of the Collective Song Club is to create a nurturing space for songwriters, artists and producers to present their works in progress, completed songs and productions as well as ask questions about the music business. Vetting songs about to be recorded will give you one more moment of clarity and reflection before you spend energy and dollars on your recording. Song tempos and keys can be discussed as well as best possible producers and vocalists for your project.

The cost of each Song Club session remains $25.  You'll find all instructions after registering for joining the meeting and sending a song MP3 and lyric sheet (unless you are performing live!) If the demand exceeds the 10 participant limit, a list will be created and those who missed out on the first Club will be first to join the next session.  Every Song Club is recorded and participants receive a link to download the next day to be able to review comments!
